Dear Carole
What is the best answer to give if you are ask why you have resigned from your job and not have a new one yet? My reason is that I was uncomfortable with the unprofessional and un-ethical behavior by my previous employer. When I say this interviewers say that they cannot see why someone would leave for that reason. Please help!

Dear Confused
Let's start with the view from the "interviewer's mind." He/she is concerned about the reason because this could mean that there was a problem or that you are a trouble-maker. So the first thought is to deal with the concerns of the interviewer.
"I know that it is not common practice to quit a job before having another job lined up but I decided that this was the best way to handle the situation.
I found myself in an environment that was not very professional or ethical and although I consider myself to be a broad-minded person who is flexible and adaptable, I decided that this was not a place where I could do my best work. I would rather not go into details, but let's just say some of the practices were not good business practices or the language used somewhat offensive. (I am guessing here - because I don't know all the facts).
I took some time off to get my thoughts together about what I wanted in a job and what my values were so that I didn't get back into a situation like the one I just left. I did some research and selected companies that had good reputations or ones where I knew people who were working there or had worked there. I feel confident about your company after reading through your website that it is the type of company I am seeking to work at."
This answer is an example and should be adapted to your language/vocabulary and your situation.
Good luck,
Carole
