Editor's Notes

Happy Summer! If you're like me you can hardly believe that we're entering the last few weeks of Summer. While there's still a lot of fun time left, - I'm looking forward to taking a New York City Waterfalls' cruise in two weeks - it's not too early to start thinking about getting back to business in the fall.

With getting "back to business" in mind, this edition focuses on Being More Effective. In this issue, you'll learn what makes an interviewer feel like he or she needs to hire you, how to renew your energy during the day, and strategies to work more effectively with clients and colleagues.

Don't miss, the What's New section below, for some interesting statistics on how the workforce will be changing over the next few years. If you're an employer there are some suggestions on how to find and retain employees.

Wherever you are, spend some time over the next two weeks tuning in to the Olympics. Watching these athletes complete despite difficulties, injuries and stress will inspire you to move forward in your own life. I know watching them always inspires me.

Unfortunately, I don't have results from our Vacation Poll. A week ago we discovered a glitch in the program. Right now our techies are deciding whether to fix the current poll or put some new software in place. Hopefully we'll have it up and running shortly.

Thanks again for your continued interest in career-intelligence.com. I hope you'll enjoy this issue as much as we enjoyed putting it together. As always, please contact me directly at arichmond@career-intelligence.com with any thoughts, comments or suggestions.

It's your life, make the most of it :)

How using type theory can help you become more effective at the office

By Annette Richmond

While most people think of assessments like The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) as career-planning tools, understanding Type can help you become a better communicator.

Type theory is based on observations by Swiss psychologist Carl Jung and the instrument’s authors, Isabel Briggs Myers and her mother Katherine Cook Briggs. The goal of the mother-daughter team was to help explain why different kinds of people are interested in different things, are good at different kinds of work and sometimes find it difficult to understand each other. How to show employers you're right for the job

By Carole Martin

The absolute worst way to go to an interview is with the attitude of: “Please, please – hire me.”

When you go to an interview with that attitude you appear desperate. And even though you actually may be desperate in a difficult job market, you don’t want to appear that way.

The demeanor and attitude that you bring to the interview will set the tone for the entire interview. Read More

Try these tips to stay on the straight and narrow. Read More
