Happy Holidays! Wherever you are, you're probably getting ready for the holidays. Hanukkah, Christmas and New Year's are only days away! Our customs are a bit untraditional. We're decorating our Christmas tree/Hanukkah bush today. And our dog, Kaila, is getting ready to go see Santa. I hope that your holiday season will be filled with whatever brings you joy! While I do believe that this is a magical time of the year, we all know that it's also quite stressful. Don't miss the second half of Manage Holiday Stress for great ways to alleviate tension in your life. As we approach New Year's many of us begin formulating our resolutions. 2004 will be the year we . . . . Well, before you get started, read Before You Plan For Next Year, Think About Where You Are Today. As always, the December issue's Spotlight is our gift to you. It's the Spotlight On Business 2003 ebook - a collection of all the reviews we've published this year. Make sure you don't miss our expanded What's New! section below. You'll find some interesting tidbits about the benefits of being married from Barbara Bartlein's new book Why Did I Marry You Anyway? (Focus On Marriage for Health, Wealth and Happiness). Because December is one of the busiest travel months you'll also find some tips for avoiding difficulties from organizer extraordinaire Barbara Hemphill (Tips for Travel Disaster Preparedness). Under Ask the Expert you'll find tips on looking more professional from our image consultant Sherry Maysonave - who is featured in December's In Style magazine. Resume specialist Annemarie Cross weighs in on Thank You Notes and small business expert Dawn Rivers Baker provides some advice on starting a Recruitment Agency. Since the holiday season is so busy for everyone, including us, we'll be publishing The Career Intelligencer only once in December. See you next year! Happy Holidays! Have a suggestion? Please send your comments to me at arichmond@career-ntelligence.com. And, if you know anyone else who'd enjoy reading The Career Intelligencer, please help us grow by passing it along. It's your life, make the most of it :)

Before you plan for next year, think about where you are today By Annette Richmond, MA Well, we've eaten our way through Thanksgiving which means that the holiday season officially has begun. Unless you're in retail, business has slowed down a bit. This means you have an opportunity to enjoy the festivities before the start of the New Year. Traditionally, New Year's has been a symbol of rebirth, making year's end a time for reflection. It's a time to congratulate yourself on your accomplishments. And think about your learning experiences. You know those occasions when things didn't turn out exactly the way you had planned. Read More |

Tidbits from Why Did I Marry You Anyway? By Barbara Bartlein, RN, LCSW For years, people have climbed the ladder of success by working long hours and taking on extra projects, often sacrificing time with family. Now, new research demonstrates that they would actually be healthier, wealthier and happier if they concentrated more on their marriage. Recent studies demonstrate that there are grave consequences for couples who call it quits too easily. We have created disposable marriages in a throw away culture with little regard to the personal costs for the individual and family. If you are looking for a long and healthy life, marriage may be part of the answer. Married folks tend to live longer and healthier than their single, divorced or widowed counterparts. And while my husband would claim that it just feels longer, the statistics demonstrate this is true. Read More |
