2021 Employment Trends

Employment Trends for 2021

2020 was a tumultuous year. Rampant unemployment and a down economy.

In CareerBuilder’s Hiring Data, January 12, 2021 they note that while many industries still have limited employment opportunities, others are seeing increases in hiring needs.

Upskilling and reskilling. During the past few months, entire industries and job roles have been transformed or disappeared. Job seekers should prioritize learning news skills that will be needed for the future of work, and seek potential employers that offer professional development, upskilling programs, and other education.

Healthcare workers are still in high demand. Healthcare moved up a few positions in December for top industries hiring. Registered nurses and critical care nurses are among the top 10 available jobs.

Retail jobs have been down overall, but they have been growing steadily over the past few months. Retail remains one of the top industries hiring and retail sales workers and retail salespersons are on the top 10 list.

Tech stands strong through the pandemic. Professional, scientific, and technical services are among the top industries hiring, with increased demand for software/app developers.

Truck drivers remain as one of the top positions. Heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, and light trucking/delivery drivers continue to be among the top posted positions. With growing cases across the country, and move to the post holiday shopping season, the shift to online shopping will continue into the spring.
